Late to the game but glad I found this. Been streaming on twitch for a few years. Usually set my levels in rekordbox so the channel VU meter on my mixer is at 2 yellow with the trim at 11 o clock. Still always feel like I’m constantly staring at the VU in OBS to make sure I’m not clipping. Appreciate the tips homie!

If you are looking to learn how to mix with channel faders, I'd recommend turning off the crossfader when you start. Having it on may only complicate things when you're trying to learn a new skill. You can always turn it back on when you're ready for more advanced stuff.

just to add, im coming into the L8 same as you, from a DJ controller. With left and right, 2 x stereo 1/4 jacks. do i then need to use both cH 1 and 2 of my L8? as i cant seem to find the 'arm' switch...? sorry for the long message.... but your videos are awesome and you inspired me to buy this mixer. but i bought a different version ( same company )

The baby scratch, chirp, and transformer I can make sound ok with the QA, but you do the forward scratch so fast. I can't figure out how to do it that fast. I can get to half time but the quarter hits are rough. I think it's just a coordination issue on my part. Great videos. I'm learning a lot from you!

Are there different designs/colors of the mixer? I have seen a few light grey mixers and otherwise only in dark shades. Or is it the light?

I love it all, vinyl, cassette, reel to reel, 8 track, cd, sacd, dvd audio, blu ray audio, streaming, files, live in person. Depends on which version on which medium on what equipment in which room I am listening as to which sounds best on that day. I wish it was as easy as pick 1 thing and that is the best. I would save a small fortune if that were the case.

Thank you for the concise tutorial. I enjoyed the bits of history as well. I had no idea who came up with scratching. I figured it came out of the 60's and 70's hip hop scenes. I just love the way it sounds with vocals and cut up melodies. You are my new teacher! I will be watching all of your videos as I learn to scratch.

I ripped one side of Metallica death magnetic vinyl to WAV at 44.1khz 16bit and the digital rendering retained the cracks and pops and a kind of representation of the warmer tone, though it did sound flat in comparison to the vinyl. This is likely due to the lower quality of my equipment however. I think a similar comparison may be watching a film in 70mm and then watching the same film in 4k digital, 70mm tends to be more holographic and the colours more organically lucid and warm while the 4k rendering of the 70mm elements although stunning, do have less dimensionality though on the upside reveal more perceivable detail from the film negative.

Vinyl to me sounds more natural. The funny thing is that I have some vinyl recordings that I digitized and have the same recording on a CD. I liked the vinyl that was digitized better than the CD. Maybe it's just personal taste or bias. Remember that in the end, we are all listening to analog with our ears. Go with what is pleasing to your ears.
